Autumn Term 2007
English
- Text: traditional tales, fables, myths, poetry based on observation and the senses and non-chronological reports.
- Comprehension and creative writing will be based on the above genre of texts.
- Class readers: Monkey Business by Kara Hay, Hedgehog by Dick King Smith and Cinderboy by Laurence Anholt.
- Personal reading will be monitored
- Sentence – verbs and their tenses, full stops, capital letters, question marks, exclamation marks, speech marks and commas
- Word – High frequency words, Violet Brand Spelling Made Easy, prefixes, synonyms
Mathematics
- Number – Place value. Ordering and sequencing. Addition. Subtraction. Odd / even. Multiplication / division.
- Simple Fractions. Worded problem solving. Weekly tables tests.
- Money – Conversion of £ to p. Estimating total amounts. ‘Real Life’ problems.
- Measure – Understanding units of measurement. Fractions of length. Areas and Perimeters.
- Shape – Understanding and describing 2D and 3D shapes. Properties and nets.
- Time – Use, read and write correct vocabulary for time. Timetables and calendars.
- Data handling – Tables, Chart and Graph interpretation. Tally and frequency charts. Bar charts.
Science
- Light and Shadow – light and dark. Light sources and absence of light.
- Moving and Growing – Life processes. Difference between living and non-living things.
- How humans move / grow. The skeleton.
- Teeth and eating. Human need for food and water. Dental care. Food needs.
French
- Greetings.
- Colours.
- Clothes.
- Numbers.
- Animals.
- Songs and Games.
- Grammar - Masculine, Feminine and plurals.
History
- The Pre-History Stone Age.
- Celts – Homes and lives of the Celts.
- Romans – Origins. Roman Invasion of Britain. Life in Roman Britain.
Geography
- Investigating the local area – study of villages within Surrey, enhancing mapwork skills and looking at changes over time.
- Weather around the world – choosing a holiday, the study of hot and cold places, an introduction to climate and how it influences people’s lives.
- Global knowledge – to recognise and locate the main continents and oceans of the world. To develop atlas skills. Study of the British Isles in maps and recognition that maps display different information.
Religious Education
- Buddhism – The life of Buddha. Buddha’s teaching.
Hinduism – Hindu Festivals. Hindu Gods. - A look at values and daily virtues (viz. kindness, honesty, helpfulness, forgiveness).
Art
- Sketchbooks – Their use.
- Painting – Line, tone & colour, (Impressionist Painters).
- 3 dimensional work. Form, Space & Line.
Design Technology
- Packaging – Nets, designing for a purpose, advertising, using resistant materials.
- Basic Joining methods and introduction to using tools safely.
Information and Communication Technology
- Windows – familiarisation of Windows.
- Text and Graphics – Highlighting, editing, changing and adding pictures.
Music
- Regular singing and ear training lessons including preparation for the Carol Service.
- Performing skills: Classes will begin Descant Recorder tuition..
- Listening skills – Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev.
Physical Education
- Football, swimming, gymnastics, netball unihoc, rugby and a variety of adventure activities.
