English
- Text: short stories, looking in particular at openings and structure, study of Michael Morpurgo’s work; poetry
- Comprehension and creative writing will be based on the above genre of texts and more formal comprehension exercises will be taken from the textbook ‘Junior English’
- Class reader: The Wreck of the Zanzibar by Michael Morpurgo
- Personal reading will be monitored
- Sentence – Proof reading their own work, direct and reported speech, revise verbs, complex sentences, revise punctuation, adverbs
- Word – Violet Brand Spelling Made Easy, synonyms, plurals, prefixes, word roots
Mathematics
- Number – Addition/subtraction. Short multiplication and long division. Mental calculations and weekly tables tests. Estimation. Decimals/fractions. Rounding/place value. Percentages. Time.
- Problem Solving – Worded problems. Money and puzzles. Timetable and measurement problems. Polyominoes.
- Shape/space and measurement – Length, width, perimeter and area. Volume, capacity and weight. Horizontal, vertical, parallel and perpendicular lines. Triangles and quadrilaterals. Line and rotational symmetry. Prisms and pyramids.
- Handling data – co-ordinates, mean, timetables, collecting/tabulating data, scales, decision trees, provability, bar charts, line graphs and frequency graphs.

- Painting/drawing software – pictures combining shapes, using computer models to represent a real-life situation.
Music
- Regular singing and ear training sessions including preparation for the Carol Service.
- Performing skills: Class ensemble pieces with recorders and percussion.
- Listening skills – Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky.
Physical Education
