English

• Text: newspaper articles, information texts, discursive texts, poetry, fiction
• Comprehension and creative writing will be based on the above genre of texts
• Exploration of the new CE theme: Love and Relationships
• Class reader: Skelling by David Almond
• Personal reading will be monitored
• Sentence – complex sentences, noun phrases, prepositional phrases, revise range of punctuation
• Word – Vowels with alternative spellings, pluralisation, vocabulary extension

Mathematics

• Number – Addition, subtraction, long/short multiplication and division. Mental and calculator work. Estimation. Place value. Order of operations/brackets. Fractions and decimals. Mixed numbers.
  
• Problem solving – involving money, number patterns and measurement.
  
• Shape, space and measure – Units of measurement, conversion, imperial / metric units and angles.
  
• Practice CE 12+ Papers and weekly mental arithmetic tests.
  

Science

• Elements of the Periodic Table – Difference between and the properties of elements, compounds and mixtures.  Structure of the Atom. Chemical symbols for the elements.
  Changing materials – Dissolving, changing state, heating and cooling, word equations.
• Density of regular and irregular solids, liquids and gases.
• Forces – Forces and linear motion – speed, friction, air resistance, balanced forces. Rotational forces. Principal of moments. Forces and pressure. Relation between force and area. Applications. Speed.
• Separating materials – Decanting, sieving, filtration, dissolving, evaporating, distillation and chromatography.

• Description of trips. Culture and geography of France.

• Creating a leaflet on a topic of their choice using Microsoft Publisher.

Music

• Regular singing and ear training sessions including preparation for the Carol Service.
• Construction of chords and their use in the harmonization of simple melodies.

Physical Education
