English
- Text: Fiction, non-fiction texts including those which inform, explain and describe and poetry
- Comprehension and creative writing will be based on the above genre of texts
- Preparation and practice of CE 13+ papers
- Exploration of the new CE theme: Love and Relationships
- Class reader: Holes by Louis Sachar
- Personal reading will be monitored
- Sentence – Variety of sentence structures, revision of all punctuation, paragraphing, stylistic conventions of non-fiction texts
- Word – figurative language, specialist vocabulary, prepositions, connectives and formal language
Mathematics
- Number – Four rules of number, mental calculations, estimation, calculator work, rounding, order of operations, fractions and decimals, percentages, indices and standard form.
- Algebra – Equations, indices, formulae and multiplication / division of algebraic fractions.
- Problem solving – involving money, probability, percentages, algebra and scale drawings.
- Shape/space and measure – angle properties, scale drawings, bearings, reflections, translations and rotations.
- Handling data – probability and co-ordinates.
- Practice CE 13+ Papers and weekly mental arithmetic tests.
- Extension papers as appropriate, covering Pythagorus, Theorem, Pi & Simultaneous equations.
Science
- Metals and their reactions – Properties of metals and non-metals. Metals and acids.
- Metal carbonates and acids. Metal oxides and acids.
- Patterns of reactivity – Metals reacting with air, water and oxygen. Displacement reactions. The activity series.
- Magnets and electro magnets. Magnetic forces and fields. The earth as a magent. Use of magnetism. Construction of a simple electromagnet.
- Variation and Genetics – Variation within and between species. Inheritance. The effect of Genetics on human development. Evolution and Natural Selection. Classification. Keys.

- Extended writing about self and family.

Latin
- 1st and 2nd conjugation verbs – past, present and future including translation.
- 2nd declension nouns –us and –er.
- 2nd declension neuter nouns and associated translations.

- The Making of the UK 1500 – 1750. Charles II – The Popish Plot.
- James II – Religious problems. Sedgemoor. Bloody Assize. 1688 Revolution.
William and Mary – Constitutional settlement. Anne – Marlborough. Practice Papers (CE and Scholarship). Revision of previous topics.

- Fieldwork enquiry.
- OS Map skills.
- Global Knowledge – Revise knowledge on world’s major features; seas, oceans, continents, rivers etc. Countries and capital cities.
- Plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes.
- Secondary activities – Revise work on economic activity. Location of industry; case study of the iron and steel industry. Industrial change. High tech industries e.g. the M4 Corridor.
Religious Education
- New Testament: The Person of God – Christ’s Ministry, Teaching. John the Baptist. The Problem of and Solution to “sin”.

Art
- Drawing, painting – colour, shape, tone & line.
- Personal response to and interpretation of portraits.
Design Technology
- Logo design – incorporating drawing techniques – orthographic, isometric, single point perspective, two point perspective.
- Tipper trucks – incorporating pneumatics.
Information and Communication Technology
- Producing a web site based on a topic of their choice using Microsoft Frontpage.
Music
- Regular singing and ear training sessions including preparation for the Carol Service.
- Revision of conventional music notation of pitch and rhythm.
Physical Education
- Football, rugby, hockey, swimming and a variety of adventure activities.
