Houses
Barfield encourages a fun and relaxed, yet healthy competitive spirit amongst its children and successfully achieves this through the four Houses set up within the school
From Year 3 onwards, pupils will be allocated to a House, to which they will belong for their time at Barfield. These are Austen, Griffith, Hawthorn and Rowling.
Teachers give plus points for pieces of work completed to a high standard, conduct points for good behaviour and demerits are given for poor work/behaviour. These points automatically get added to a House total which runs throughout the year. At regular House meetings, pupils get to find out their running House totals and positions.
Regular House sports events occur throughout the year, as per the school calendar, and the teams are picked and organised by the House Captains. Pupils who win events on Sports Day are also awarded points which go towards the House competition.
Fund raising is always enjoyable within the Houses, as the children pick exciting events and activities to help raise money for their chosen charities.
At the end of the Summer Term, the House with the most points accumulated over the academic year receives a prize in the form of a Merit Outing, where all children from the winning House have a picnic lunch in the grounds and a fun activity afternoon of quad biking, high ropes, archery and zip wire!
