Owls

In Owls, children attend school for five mornings a week and learn through purposeful play activities in small classes. They are treated as individuals, in a warm and caring atmosphere. Optional afternoon sessions are available.

Half termly topics are planned to ensure that the children have a wide range of experiences linked to the Early Years Foundation Curriculum. These include Fairy Tales, Animals and Transport.

Children develop their reading skills through rhyme and alliteration prior to commencing sound and letter activities through the ‘Jolly Phonics’ scheme. Weekly P.E and swimming activities take place and are taught by a specialist teacher. The children also enjoy music and movement in Barfield’s purpose-built Multi Resource Centre (MRC.)

The children have many opportunities to explore outside in the extensive grounds at Barfield and during the year trips are arranged to Alice Holt Forest and Fisher's Farm, to extend the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world.

Please see curriculum notes for more details.
