PSHCE

Personal, Social, Health and Charity Education refers to those aspects of Barfield School’s ethos, planning, teaching and organisation explicitly designed to promote the personal and social development of our pupils.

It includes the learning opportunities, experiences and outcomes designed to lead to personal growth.  The ethos of the school, the school rules, the degrees to which the children are given responsibility all contribute to PSHCE.

Effective PSHCE requires teaching and learning strategies which provide opportunities and encouragement for the children to explore attitudes, values an develop communication skills, practise leadership and assertiveness, develop and justify personal opinions and experiment with strategies for resolving conflicts.

We acknowledge that everyday at school has the potential for influencing a child’s holistic development and we aim for every child to leave with a positive view of themselves and the world around them.  Staff understand that personal and social development and responsibility are intrinsic to the nature of education at Barfield.

The children access PSHCE through a variety of approaches including; role playing, debates, campaigns, discussions, poster designs, displays, visiting speakers, outdoor team building activities, related literature and through sharing personal experiences.

Both pupils and teachers value this time together and find that it adds to their sense of individuality and belonging at school.
