Science Prep
Science is one of the most popular subjects and is taught to all classes in the school. From Year 4, the children spend time in the science lab which is superbly equipped with all the apparatus needed for investigative work – Bunsen burners and Leibig condensers for chemistry, magnets, force meters and circuit kits for physics, and microscopes for biology. We follow the National Curriculum and Common Entrance syllabus but enhance the lessons with extra work, often using the school’s extensive grounds including farm and woodland.
We believe that children learn best by doing, so the majority of science lessons include practical experiments. The children often carry out investigations into various topics such as ‘What are the conditions needed for germination of cress seeds?’ or ‘Where do woodlice prefer to live?’
The science department organises visits and trips for all children throughout the school year. They also hatch out chicks most years and these are added to our farm.
In January 2008 we are expecting baby rabbits from our 'lab house rabbit' Rabbit Williams. They are timed to coincide with the teaching of the 'Human Reproduction' topic to the children in Years 6 and 8.

Breaking News
On Thursday 7th February, 'Rabbit Williams' produced five adorable babies despite having not looked pregnant at all!
She is proving to be a great mother and all the babies are doing well. Especially as they have been visited by almost all of the children already.
On the Monday following half-term, children will be able to visit the new arrivals for a handling session.
