Sport & P.E.
The P.E. department headed up by Mr Ray Taylor, offers every child a great deal of variety. We are particularly proud of our record of swimming successes; most of the children learn to swim well, and go on to represent the school in tournaments and IAPS national heats.
Our main hall doubles as a gymnasium, with a variety of equipment to teach fitness and development.
All children at Barfield School cover a varied physical education programme. The boys learn the basic skills in football, rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis and gymnastics. The girls play netball, hockey, rounders, tennis and learn the basic movements to improve their co-ordination and balance skills in gymnastics. The children enjoy participating in athletics and have gained great success on a regular basis in cross-country events against local opposition. Matches are usually organised on a Wednesday afternoon with other fixtures taking place from time-to-time on other days. Inter-class competitions allow all children to participate and feel part of a team.
Outdoor pursuits are a thriving concern and in 1992, Mr Ray Taylor set up Three Peaks Outdoor Pursuits to provide holiday activity courses for the children of Barfield School, which has now been extended to the wider community. www.3pks.co.uk
